The "Cross-Cultural Management" Intensive Programme is an initiative of the EuroMed Research Business Institute designed to promote the idea of Cross-Cultural Management training between students and academics, of different cultural backgrounds, throughout Europe. Funded by the Hellenic State Scholarships Institution under the ERASMUS LLP of the European Commission, the programme is coordinated by and will be hosted in the facilities of the Dept. of Finance and Insurance and the Dept. of Business Planning and Information Systems of the TEI of Crete in Agios Nikolaos.

In addition to tasks related to teaching activities, i.e. lectures, simulations, case stud-ies, guided assignment work, group discussions etc the following non-teaching activities, related to the preparatory, implementation, dissemination and follow-up stages of the program, will have to be dealt with by participants.

  11. Working towards the design and implementation of a joint Master's Programme on Cross-Cultural (or International) Management on the basis of the content and experience gained by the implementation of this IP

  12. Host the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 repetitions of the programme

Allocation of non-teaching tasks between participants

Programme Coordination is assigned to Dr Evangelos Tsoukatos, Lecturer at the Department of Finance and Insurance of TEI of Crete, the coordinating institution. He will be assisted by the Finance Office and the International Relations Office of TEI of Crete. He will work closely with the Department of Finance and Insurance of TEI of Crete, the group of Participant Academics and the Program’s Scientific Committee.

The programme's Scientific Committee consists off the following participant academics (in alphabetical order):

  • Prof Simon Dolan, Department of Human Resource Management and Scientific Director of the Institute for Labour Studies (IEL) at ESADE and a world expert in cross-cultural management

  • Prof Fotini Psimarni - Voulgaris, Department of Business Planning and Information Systems of Technological Educational Institute of Crete, Greece.

  • Dr Yaakov Weber, Department of Straegy and Entrepreneurship School of Business Administration College of Management, Israel, President of EMRBI

  • Dr Evangelos Tsoukatos, Lecturer at the Department of Finance and Insurance of TEI of Crete, Greece, Co-Chair of EMRBI’s Cross-Cultural Management Research Group

  • Prof Demetris Vrontis, University of Nicosia, Cyprus, President of EMRBI

The Committee acts in the name of the whole partnership and deals with 1) approving (or not) partner institutions’ proposals regarding students to attend the program, 2) endorsing and un-dersign ECTS certificates issued by the program’s coordinator, 3) evaluating the program and prepare and present the final evaluation report, 4) propose changes to the program on the basisof its evaluation.

Dr Carmen Rodriguez Santos will have the responsibility to allocate teaching duties to participating academics and organize all course activities in order to achieve the best possible overall result. She will also be the liaison between the Group of Participants and the International Scientific Committee.

Further more all academics will contribute, to the best of their abilities, to activities 4 to 12 above.

A kick-off meeting of all participants was held, at the 2nd International EMRBI Conference (October 26-28/2009, Salerno, Italy), in which work progress was assessed, and the work plan was updated and agreed upon. A work review meeting will be held in the first phase of the course in which all last arrangements will be taken care of. Electronic communication means (the programme's web site, e-mail, chat etc) will also be employed for managing and monitoring the programme's work flow progress.

After Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece (July 5-16/7/2010) the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 repetitions of the program will be hosted by two other partners in different countries. A number of participant institutions have expressed interest to be the program’s hosts, i.e. Leon Uni-versity – Spain, Leeds Metropolitan University - UK, Ramon Llul University – Spain, Universityof Nicosia – Cyprus, Vilnius University – Lithuania and Helsinki University of Technology – Finland.

Technical Assistance

The Finance Office of the Scientific Committee employs experienced professionals applying computer-assisted project management procedures in all stages of a program’s implementation and follow-up with regard to book-keeping, deliverables, budget, financial and contractual arrangements (with partner institutions, academics, attending students and external providers).

The International Relations Office of TEI of Crete’s professional staff will deal with all contacts and negotiations with the ERASMUS authorities, particularly with the National Agency, and prepare the relevant paperwork. Furthermore, the office will be responsible for all contacts with international of-fices of partner institutions regarding issues related to students and academics, travel details, ticket and hotel arrangements etc.

The Departments of Finance and Insurance, and Business Planning and Information Systems will make available all required for the program facilities and equipment. Its technical staff will keep equipment operational at all times and its administrative staff will assist students and teachers in their daily activities including reproducing and distributingteaching material, access to internet and electronic databases, library etc.
